On Sunday 2nd March I left Madrid by the A.V.E., very fast train, to Barcelona and then changed to Narbonne in France. Travelled at 300km per hour!
Great train ride. After a wait my taxi arrived and off to my Hotel for 2 nights giving me time to turn my luggage back into a bike!
Then the fun began!
On Tuesday 4th March, armed with maps I headed off from Narbonne into a miserable wind, on a busy road, in driving rain - to Carcassonne. After 10km I was hypothermic, wet through, I had been blown off the road twice and generally began to question why I was actually doing this? In fact a good string of Cairns expletives formed in my brain! A hotel appeared and without consciously deciding I checked in for a room, lunch, dinner and breakfast!
Wednesday 5th Im now with tail wind and back to Narbonne to catch the bike friendly train to Carcassonne. (I have no idea where an apostrophe lives on this French keyboard!)
On this section of road I counted, within my view, over 50 huge wind-powered turbines.
I do find my total lack of French a frustration and in most cases equals the total lack of English offered by the French! Its given me a significant personal insight into the experiences of my children who have each spent over 12 months in non-english speaking countries.
So the bike travelled on a friendly train!
