BERLIN TO COPENHAGEN

I met some great people along the way. One was Jurgen May. He spent an evening with me in the restaurant of my "hostal". He assisted me order a traditional meal from this region and with the provision of some general information about the area. It came to me as I was riding that the ragweb took me through what used to be what we called East Germany. We talked about the transition over the past 19-20 years from autocratic, communist rule to one of democracy. He spoke of the positives but also of the hardships. In controlling pollution and introducing best practice many local factories had to close with the consequent impact on the locals who then had to move to secure work. He found his "old" English to German dictionary. (An example of the incredible friendliness I found in this region.)
The other shot is of one of the very comfortable rooms in a hostal on the radweg. Cost of around 35 euros and including breakfast.
